The idea of the EURONEURO Meeting started 1997 at the department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Ziekenhuis Ooost-Limburg (ZOL) Genk Belgium. The Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg (ZOL) is a teaching hospital, affiliated to the University of Leuven, with an already long lasting (at least national) renommee and tradition concerning all aspects of neurosurgery (spinal surgery, craniotomy, aneurysm surgery, and ICU care of traumatic brain injury).

The department of anaesthesiology offers full traineeshop in anaesthesiology, intensive care medicine and emergency medicine, and is reknowned for its interest in scientific research, scientific approaches, so the idea of organzing a “large international congress on all multidisciplinary aspects of the acute care of brain” was fully supported by our whole department. In 1997, the idea of a large “neuro-anaesthesia-ICU meeting” was founded. The idea was to organize a multidisciplinary meeting concerning the acute care of the brain”.
